Using Ritual to Stay on-Track in Your Business
Three Ways Practical Magic Rituals Can Help
Freedompreneurs have a Lot of Company Right Now
Many people are working from home these days. They are trying to set their hours, figure out their work space, and navigate the boundaries between laundry, dog-walking, and actual work… and many are doing this for the first time.
Despite the romance of the laptop lifestyle, having an at-the-office work week can provide a level of routine, stability and accountability that makes work-life easier in some ways. So how can we, whether we’re a ‘no-plan-b’ soulpreneur or just temporarily working from home, strike a healthy work/life balance that will sustain us as human-animals and the quality of what we offer, for the long term?
For me, the Foundation is Ritual
If the word ‘ritual’ immediately conjures images of candles and blood, it’s time to open your mind to the possibilities that ritual practice can offer in your business and personal life.
The fact is, we all have a number of rituals already. But instead of being chosen consciously with a purpose, they may have developed and stuck unconsciously, and they may or may not be supportive for you.
Here are a few of the ways ritual practices can help:
Ritual can Help us Transition from one Task to the Next
It might feel weird to move straight from creative copywriting to running an errand or unloading the dishwasher. Or vice-versa.
If we really feel into it we might realize that, energetically, non-conscious transitions like those are allowing our creative energy to leak or become contaminated. The more we ignore that whisper of discomfort the more we might notice the writer’s block setting in, for example.
Having a transition ritual, an example might be three deep breaths and splashing water on your face, can help separate those tasks in an intentional way that honors them both.
Ritual Reminds us that Everything is Sacred
From brushing our teeth to walking the dog to pressing ‘send’ on that email, ritual helps us to stay grounded in gratitude and avoid losing sight of the innumerable blessings in the mundane.
This is a powerful way to continue to ensure you and your business are aligned and blessed for sucess.
Ritual can Provide a Safe Home
It can be a place for us to return to if and when we are at a loss or feeling completely overwhelmed. The next time you’re staring at your computer with thoughts spinning and a sense of panic creeping up into your chest, try stepping away and taking refuge in whatever your go-to ritual may be.
It’s a healthy way to retreat without numbing, imploding, or exploding. It can be the ‘reset button’ you need to tackle that overwhelming stuff again.
If you have a ritual practice that helps you stay aligned in your business or work, I would love to hear about it!
