5 Mistakes Keeping Coaches, Consultants, & Therapists Stuck

by

Launching your coaching, consulting, or therapy practice is one thing, but keeping it sustainable and growing is another.

In the beginning, you get those first word-of-mouth clients, get your feet wet, and you get to see firsthand that it IS possible to make money doing this thing you love, in your own way.

You’re really doing it!

But as some of those early clients wrap up their work with you, you inevitably hit a dry spell. “I guess I need to start marketing” you think to yourself, “because I really don’t want to go back to working for someone else”.

BUT… someone with your training, experience, and discerning nature is not about to start dancing around on TikTok or whatever the kids are doing these days.

AND… that website you put together when you started out is looking a little amateurish now and you cringe slightly every time you share it. In fact, you sorta secretly hope people don’t see it.

PLUS… this space is already crowded with talented colleagues and competition… some of whom seem to be crushing it. Who are you to try to stand out from the crowd?

And how?

You realize that growing your practice to a point where it easily pays all the bills AND affords you a nice annual vacation is a different game… one that your school program didn’t prepare you for.

Let’s break this down a bit.

You need to get noticed. You need more leads in the pipeline and you need clients who are happy to pay higher prices. You need to establish yourself as an authority and get ‘micro-famous’ for the unique perspective you provide.

Unfortunately we know that most coaches, consultants, and therapists don’t ever get to this place.

Why not?

See if you resonate with any of these 5 mistakes:

  1. They continue using that first website they built for way too long, even though they feel a little embarrassed about it.
  2. They don’t understand how to create a richly layered professional brand for their practice, or WHY it’s so important to their success.
  3. They don’t know how to implement a high-integrity marketing system that basically runs itself for them.
  4. With these first 3 elements missing, they feel shy and aimless whenever they post to social media.
  5. AND they’re afraid to invest bigger bucks in their business. Getting started consisted of DIY bootstrapping. That’s familiar territory. Hiring a pro to set this all up for them feels foreign, and scary. They stay stuck in a low-earning or inconsistent practice that looks more like a ‘side-hustle’ because they’re doing what is familiar.

And they’re not to blame for this.

Nobody ever taught them how to level-up. No one showed them how to hire the right professional or told them when the time is right to do that. And psychologically, nobody has given them ‘permission’ to take this next step. This is a big deal.

The Antidote

If this sounds like you, let’s revisit the question again: Who are you to stand out from the crowd, and how?

Let’s review the how first:

  • a richly layered professional brand that showcases your unique approach
  • a website you’re proud to share, that resonates immediately
  • a marketing system that does the work for you

These 3 things are essential if you want to shift from running your business like a newbie to having a next-level practice that all the right people are talking about.

And who are you to stand out and shine in your industry and community?

I can assure you that YOU have a unique lens & approach that you can become ‘micro-famous’ for. And, micro-famous (being known as an authority in your field with your unique perspective) is all you need to elevate your business to that next level where the car is paid off and you’re booking back in at your favorite vacation spot.

I know this because it’s the first thing I help coaches and therapists identify (in their PracticeMagic Blueprint) before they even decide to work with me.

These are the ingredients that conjure what I call ‘Practice Magic’… that sweet spot where you start to embody sage-like confidence and tranquility as you run your business and your life… where the competition simply falls away. Learn exactly what Practice Magic is and how to use it, here.

The question remaining is: Do you want this for your business?

How do you know if you should you be:

  • lDiving whole-heartedly into visibility because your brand and website are already everything they need to be.
  • lDoing a bit of a tune-up, because you're almost there but your brand and website needs a little something.
  • lGetting a stunning & strategic makeover so you no longer struggle to get clients and you feel so proud & confident to share your link!

Once you’ve been in business for a while it can be hard to zoom out and really see what’s working and what’s not. That’s exactly why I created the Quietly Iconic Checklist.
